The Angiosperm Dissection Lab examples Self Directional Skills
A project we did last quarter was the Angiosperm Dissection Lab in Biology class. The assignment was to dissect a flower and try to figure out the type and how the flower uses/does reproduction. The goal was by the end of the lab to understand the reproduction of the flower, and how every flower's reproduction is different. The flower I chose for this assignment was the Hibiscus flower.
I chose this example because I thought it was a fun activity in biology and it was an interesting topic. Before this lab project I didn’t know the specifics on how plants reproduce. I had only learned the basics and afterward I took in the knowledge and understood so much. After the lab I understood the differences between plant pollination and how they are all different. The Angiosperm Dissection lab represents Self Directional Skills. The lab demonstrates how I put in the effort and work into an assignment. It will also demonstrate my ability to understand the subject of this project. This example presents my growth as a student by putting in the effort to understand the material and use my time wisely. This challenged me because for the first quarter I had poor time management. This lab interested my curiosity because before I had very little information on the reproductive part of the flower and now I know so much more. If I was to do this lab again I would space out my time more wisely and maybe choose a more interesting flower. The hibiscus flower was an easy start but i would use a more complicated flower next time so I may receive more information on this subject. |
