During the third quarter Mr. Hazlet assigned a project off of the website instructables.com. The assignment was to create your own project with the idea or following the instructions. I chose to build a shelf. The shelf I built consisted of one two by four, four glass bottles and green paint. To build the project I cut the two by four into three almost equal pieces and drilled two holes into each wood beam on opposite ends. I then sanded down all the edges and parts I could accidentally harm myself. Afterward I then painted the wood beams with a white base coat two times, after the paint was set I came in with a bright grass/lime green. Once the paint dried I hot glued the bottles into place creating the shelf framing. For decorations I hot glued on sea glass beads on the top shelf.
I choose this project for my portfolio because I put in a lot of time consuming work to make the project. I also choose it because it shows plenty of my current and future growth. This project shows how I will do better next time. The 21st century skill that would be the closest to Self directional skill because I am doing this project on my own and creating a self made project with the idea coming from instructables.com. During this process I am learning how to use certain items and how to maintain a safe work environment mostly on my own. I am also learning how to keep good time management to finish my project. Since this my choice project is a hands on learning experience and I am doing it by myself it would fall under the category of self directional Skills. This project demonstrates my current growth because I made mistakes in this project which has now led me to know how and what I could do to make my next project better and to efficiently less time consuming. This project challenged me because I was extremely nervous to be using a power drill and I also underestimated how time consuming the project would be. In the future it shows how I will do better next time doing a hand on learning project like this one. For my current growth I have learned from my mistakes and I know more than I did before. If I was to do this project again I would have used different glue other that hot glue to secure the bottles because the first time two of the bottles fell and shattered and the second time I tried to pick it up they peeled off. Other than that the project was a great learning experience and I would do it again. |
