For my internship I worked with MODO an urgent care and medical wellness service provider, where I learned how to navigate the world of a private practice. I spent 70 hours shadowing and working for my mentor Dr. Reza Danesh, the founder of MODO. I interned at MODO clinic located at Wailea Gateway Plaza and I also helped with mobile patients
Key skills learned: taking vitals, regular front desk tasks (billing Patients, answering calls and emails, filling out patient charts), spiking an IV bag, counting and labeling medication, mixing liquid medicine (using needles and syringes), flushing an ear, assisting on how to administer medication through an injection.
My takeaways: how to work with a patient (from young to old), insight of basic private practice routines, how to work as a medical scribe, what I don’t want to be (physician in a private practice), Family or children’s physician or an RN, and it over all furthered my drive to pursue a career in medicine.
My 21st century skills: I was challenged greatly in my interpersonal and communication skills because It was necessary for me to step out of my comfort zone of keeping to myself, I was required to be working with my the other staff and help take care of many patients throughout the day. Though going through this learning process I enhanced my people skills as well as my team working skills.
