Name of assignment: Improving the sexual health education here at KCS
Teacher: Mrs. Cassie Class: Junior Seminar This project demonstrates the twenty first skill of Civic literacy and Engagement. This is because we are actively working with the Kihei Charter's High school community. Such as asking the high school students what we could improve and if your project is fulling the goal of improving the sexual health education. We are also suppling information (flyers and pamphlets) around the school and providing resources (condoms) in the third floor counselors rooms. I am most proud of how well our project has gone and the amount of positive feedback we have been receiving. It is also very rewarding that planned parenthood and Maui Aids foundation has been helping our cause/goal. The positive feedback from the counselors and high school students has really proven the impact of our junior project. Throughout this ongoing assignment, I have improved upon the twenty first skill of Civic Literacy and Engagement by working on improving the Community problem of sexual health education at Kihei Charter High School. I have also developed my twenty first century skill by working more on engaging with others high school students about ways we can improve the cause/goal of my junior project. The most difficult parts about this assignment was reaching out to the many organizations about funding our project. Another set back we encountered was being turned down for suppling our resources booth in the third floor bathrooms. We are still struggling to figure out how we could fully solve this problem but for now we have given our little resource packets to the counselors. If I was to do this project again, there is nothing I would do differently. I think Claire and I worked hard on this and the outcome is way better than what we had originally imagined. Therefore I don't think there is anything we could have improved on. This relates to past assignments and projects involving community based learning and engagement. From what we have learned in the past about working with your community and or school community, we now know what is efficient, and what doesn't work. Which we have applied to our junior project. In the future I will be able to apply this to other assignments and projects about community involvement, from my experience of this project I will know how to work with others to receive positive feedback and how to solve the problems from the negative feedback answers. |
